It has been
a while since I dropped a line about Pi.
The winter storms were fierce and protracted, and I have been busy with
school and other matters.
Now that the
rains have subsided and classes are behind me, I have retreated to Pi for renewal. The weather is incredible – not
too windy, and sunny by 10 am after a night of gentle fog. Friends coming and going, good food consumed
and wine imbibed.
But added
to all this fun is a little bobcat who has chosen to make my pasture his
home. Every morning, just as Pogo is
meowing to go outside, the little bobcat appears. I first saw him taking an incredible leap
over a fence to bask in the cut grass and survey the gopher holes. One morning I saw him actually catch a gopher
– what a fierce attack that was! – and devour the poor prey. The next morning I caught him sitting atop a
fence in a stare-off with two deer. He
got skittish and ran away, and the deer followed!
He is so
beautiful, with white marks behind his ears, on his face, neck, and upper
chest. His rear legs and tail appear to
be dipped in chocolate. He is compact
and muscular and I would just love to cuddle him. He looks at me every morning, and I do
believe he would like to cuddle me back.
